Abstract

Intraoperative frozen-section analysis is a key tool in evaluating surgical margins during tongue carcinoma resections, where achieving clear margins is critical for local control. This case series examines patients undergoing hemiglossectomy for tongue carcinoma with intraoperative frozen-section assessment. Frozen-section margin findings were conveyed to the surgeon and later compared with final paraffin histopathology to highlight practical challenges. Frozen-section analysis serves as a valuable adjunct in intraoperative margin control during hemiglossectomy for tongue carcinoma, enabling timely surgical modification. However, limitations—particularly in deep and posterior margins—underscore the need to interpret frozen findings alongside surgical judgement and definitive paraffin histopathology.
